If you have been following me for a while, you know I am an avid reader. I go through spells where I don’t read as much as I should, but generally speaking I try to read at least 5-10 books a month. I can offer book recommendations on top of book recommendations, but here are five that have completely changed my life in one way or another:
It’s important to note that while a few of these books seem like “make money” books, they are so much more than that. They are really “shape your mindset to create whatever you want in life” books with catchy titles involving money, since that is what so many people are looking for.
The Vortex by Esther & Jerry Hicks was the first of these books to change my life. It’s a book that not only teaches you how to attract what you want in life, but also how it helps your relationships with other people. Not just a love relationship or family relationship, but how you relate to EVERYONE. And this is so important because it is much easier to change your mindset and your attitudes when you’re alone, but we aren’t alone in this world. Our life is built on relationships. I cannot recommend this book enough. It helped me through some of my roughest times and it’s a book I read again and again and give as gifts every year.
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is a book I put off reading for years. I heard about it all through high school and then it was recommended to me by three separate people over the course of two weeks. It kept popping into my life, but I always avoided reading it because I rarely read fiction by choice. But this isn’t fiction, this is a story that will affect your life in ways you didn’t even know possible. I had so many breakthroughs while reading this book and I remember thinking after the first time I read it “so THAT’S why so many people said I had to read this”…it all makes sense once you read it.
If you talk to any highly successful person and ask them what you should read, almost every single one will recommend Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill to you. And there’s a reason why. It’s an old (and I mean OLD) book that still holds up incredibly well because it is filled with universal truths. Like I said before, it’s not just a book about making money. It’s a book about the tools you need to create whatever you want in life. And the tools are all mental. Must read, must read, must read. And when you’re done reading, read it again.
A Happy Pocket Full of Money by David Cameron Gikandi and The New Game of Life and How to Play It by Florence Scovel Shinn both fell into my lap. The first I found calling out to me from my parents’ bookshelf one day, and the latter as a random gift from my dad when I was going through a hard time and felt lost. These books are extremely special and I have read each of them several times in the last two years. They are filled with actual and detailed ACTION steps and I recommend you read these two last on this list for that reason. Why? Once you start reading these books, you will feel your mind shift but there are no instructions for what to do from that point! These two books are the closest manuals for life I’ve found. If you feel lost and confused, these two books will give you actual next steps.
Whenever I go through periods where I feel like I need help, whether it’s personal stuff or with my business or my health or whatever it is, these are my go to books. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
